4.1. PLUMBING

GUIDE TO WATER CONSERVATION

4.1. PLUMBING

As previously noted, more than half of municipal water is used for domestic purposes, running through home plumbing toward its final use.  Plumbing improvements can lead to reduced water use in houses and other buildings.  Some techniques for water conservation through plumbing include

  • Installing low-flow plumbing fixtures,
  • Reducing pressure to lower flow through open fixtures and leaks, and
  • Gray water reuse (1).
