Congress Considers Dam Safety Bills

Both houses of Congress are considering the Dam Rehabilitation and Repair Act of 2009 (S. 732 and H.R. 1770). The Senate version of the bill would establish a program under the Federal Emergency Management Agency to make grants to states for the rehabilitation of deficient, publicly-owned dams. The bill authorizes $10 million in 2010, rising to $100 million in 2014.
