President-Elect Obama Announces Environmental Nominations

President-elect Barack Obama has been announcing a string of nominations, including those in agencies that have environmental and infrastructure responsibilities. He has nominated Lisa Jackson to serve as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Jackson currently serves as chief of staff for New Jersey Governor John Corzine and previously lead that state’s Department of Environmental Protection.

He named Nancy Sutley to head the Council on Environmental Quality. Sutley is deputy mayor of Los Angeles and formerly worked at EPA during the Clinton administration.

Former EPA Administrator Carol Browner will serve as a “climate czar.” This is a new position that will oversee climate change policy across the entire federal government.

Obama has nominated Steven Chu to serve as Secretary of Energy. Che presently leads the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
