Senator Harry Reid (Nevada) has introduced the Climate Change Drinking Water Adaptation Research Act (S. 2970). The bill would require the Environmental Protection Agency along with the Departments of Commerce, Energy and Interior to create a fund that would finance research that would help drinking water suppliers adapt to the effects of climate change. The research would be conducted by nonprofit research organizations with support from drinking water utilities. The bill authorizes annual appropriations of $25 million for fiscals years 2009 through 2019.
