Weather Mitigation Bill Introduced in House
Rep. Mark Udall (Colorado) has introduced the Weather Mitigation and Technology Transfer Act of 2007 (H.R.3445). The bill would create a Weather Mitigation Advisory and Research Board in the Department of Commerce. The duties of board would include promotion and financial assistance of weather mitigation research. Weather mitigation, as defined in the bill, is “changing and controlling, or attempting to change or control, by artificial methods the natural development of atmospheric cloud forms or precipitation forms which occur in the troposphere.” Examples include cloud seeding, hail suppression, rain enhancement, and snow pack augmentation. Rep. Udall’s web site has a news release on the bill.
