Agricultural irrigation has greatly increased the
productivity of land for food and fiber.
Poorly managed agricultural irrigation can introduce pollutants to water
including
- sediments,
- particulate
organic solids,
- nutrients,
- metals,
- chemicals
(pesticides, fertilizers, etc.),
- salt,
and
- microorganisms
