2.3.1. AGRICULTURE

Agricultural irrigation has greatly increased the productivity of land for food and fiber.  Poorly managed agricultural irrigation can introduce pollutants to water including

  • sediments,
  • particulate organic solids,
  • nutrients,
  • metals,
  • chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.),
  • salt, and
  • microorganisms (1).
