On another blog, I posted links to several stories about the Vdara, a hotel in Las Vegas. It has a curved, reflective surface that concentrates heat in an area by the pool. It greatly discomforts the unfortunate guest it lands on. IW concentrates on civil infrastructure rather than architecture, but the story can be a reminder to even engineers that design decisions can have unanticipated results and unintended consequences, so the links are repeated below.
